Bangles and Baubles ....

I make no apology for using a similar header photo from last time, as I have been continuing with the felt work this weekend. Refining the process of creating the bangles is a delight, as more and more ideas emerge. I have been feeling a bit under the weather, both meteorologically and physically, lately, and have needed the 'colour fix', and felt has certainly fitted the bill!

So more pincushions have arrived, giving opportunity to mix colours and create texture with chunky stitching and appliqué.

Ideas buzzing in my head for decorating the bangles. Still debating to bead or not to bead!

A change from the bright primaries, more of a 'woodland vibe' with these, and using a smaller core.

Also I have designed another large angel panel - it uses a LOT of felt but I love the effect of the layers.

I start with a design on freezer paper. Then I colour the outline of each layer so I can see which one to cut in which felt. This is the 'master copy'. I then trace, again on freezer paper, each layer seperately, and cut them out, iron onto the appropriate colour felt, and cut out.

When I layer the felt pieces up there are often minor adjustments to make. I'm starting to think now, about how each piece will be embellished, and time is spent very happily making my selection of threads.

Here you can see the start I've made on the wings. I try and do as much embroidery as possible on just two layers, to avoid trying to get the needle through too much felt. Also, it's easier to manipulate smaller pieces.

I also finished the Wingèd Heart which you saw as cut pieces in the previous post.

So there it is. And I shall be stitching today as well. Though I wouldn't want you to think I have been neglecting the shopping / housework / mum stuff/ ironing .......oh, well, perhaps I have neglected the ironing, but there's no change there! I hope you have kept yourselves warm and happy over the cold weekend.

  1. Stunning work, and so prolific..... love everything, you must open up a folksy shop, you can't keep everything yourself and you can't have that many friends to gift your work to, surely? ok, maybe you can.....

    1. Thanks Sue. Yes, I have been thinking recently about Folksy or Etsy - people keep asking if I sell my stuff. Don't know how easy it is to get started on them though - I am a bit of a technophobe!

    1. Hi Cathy, no, we didn't get much light here at all, just wind and rain. Though secretly I have enjoyed having a quiet stitch kinda day! I do need to work on some subtler coloured bangles - just to play around with colour combinations really. And I STILL need to chat to you about some buttons! (I'm prevaricating because I need to do some measuring!!) Lx

  6. Sometimes you just need to have a bit of 'me' time to sort yourself out. What a productive time you are having and such lovely results. I used to love working with felt when at college.

  8. You certainly have developed a super style of your own and produce quality desirable items so I do think Etsy, Folksy etc., would be a perfect venture for you.
I hope the hospital visit goes well for you and you get back on track asap.

  9. Hi Jo, - thank you, I'm sure the hospital will be fine. Well, I am telling myself it will be! And thank you for your comments about the felt items - I feel I've suddenly got into my stride with them, really enjoying the making ad the ideas are coming thick and fast. I suppose I need to look into this online selling - I think I'm dragging my feet because my heart isn't really in i, and it requires a bit of techie input. (always a bummer for me!) Lx

  15. Wonderful work Lynne, What a great way to use felt in the bangles. Much more comfortable to wear than a solid bracelet. If I can set up a Folksy and Etsy shop anyone can!
