Emergency Blog Post!
Sorry folks, this is an old photo from my blog, it's one of my stipple quilts. This header should have been a photo of some lovley gingham fabric and embroidery threads sent to me by the lovely Penny, of L is for Love blog fame. Penny and I have been doing some off-blog chatting recently, and she kindly sent me a fab little bundle of goodthings which I wanted to feature at the top. Only to find that I have apparently exceeded my storage! Some very techie stuff and options which make no sense to me come up when I want to upload more photos. Well, I can upload them from my camera into 'pictures' but I can't access any for the blog. I remember some of you, over time, have mentioned similar situations but don't know what you had to do to resolve them .
Can I throw this open to Blogland and ask for some advice? In words of one syllable if possible! You are talking to the terminally inept here! Posting this in great hopes of assistance and reassurance!

I think you have to now pay for more image storage - it's not a lot - a few pounds a year. But as it hasn't yet happened to me I don't know for sure how to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think that is going to be the answer, Wendz. It jus came out of the blue!
DeleteHello lynne, there should be an option from google for you to buy more storage, it is 5$ I think , but don't be put of by the dollars, I think I paid by paypal, they then give you heaps of storage for the year, I take loads and haven't run out yet!! it is all cosha and cost just a few pounds....
ReplyDeleteif you don't want to pay. ...you will have to go through all your images on google online and have a tidy up, delete the ones you downloaded but never used on your blog. If you delete ones you have used on your blog they will disapere of your past posts...does that make sense?? any how I paid and evrything is fine, I think most people do.... hope this helps xx
Hi Sophie, yes, that's what I'm going to have to do. I wish they made it clear at the outset! I didn't even know I WAS storing things in Picassa! I just click and upload a photo from my 'my pictures' how weird they are also stored somewhere else!
DeleteThanks for the advice. Lx
This quilt is gorgeous, Lynne!! L xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lizzy, and thanks for your helpful words on facebook! (I may findmyself down at yours one day, lap-top in hand, air of bewilderment on face. Oh, but you are used to seeing that......once Jock gets going on about bowing direction!) Lx
DeleteThe strange thing is, it's happening to a lot of bloggers at the same time!
ReplyDeleteIt also happened to me this week and I don't know wat to do...
My husband will take a look at it this weekend... :-)
Love from Mirjam.
Hey Mirjam, ask him to pop round to sort mine out when he's finished, will you!
DeleteUnfortunately in our house it is a case of the blind leading the blind on the computer front! Lx
Hi Lynne, I load mine onto Picasa, think its about 10 US dollars a year, or thereabouts! Blooming heck, me giving blogging advice! Mine you I wouldn't know where to start, Mr Bea set it up for me! :)
ReplyDeleteha! Well done you, Ada! So you actually paid in advance, kind of thing - as you've not been blogging long you can't have used up your 'free space', can you? I don't remember being asked for any money, but then I don't remember signing up to Picassa in the first place. But what do I know! It is all a complete mystery to me! Lx
DeleteEeeek! Have no idea and haven't heard of it happening before. Am just about to do a blog (bout time!) so I hope it doesn't happen me! I've been blogging for over two years so I must have loads of pics stored (way more than you!) and so far so good. Am sure I don't PAY anything (I would have remembered that!!). You could try googling the question - there's lots of answers out there usually. Anyhow - love your latest posts - nice to read about your adventures! xCathy
ReplyDeleteHi CAthy, well, it's looking like I should pay up and look happy. Or just pay up and grit my teeth. It's not the amount, it's the principle. And not knowing in advance. But most people are saying pay for the extra and carry on regardless so I probably will. Away tomorrow to play music in a pub(again!) in Worcestershire - hopefully not flooded - and there will be someone there who is very knowledgeable about these matters so I hope to get it sorted. Lx
DeleteIt's happened to a lot of people this past week. One of them is Cardarian of WOYWW who has put on her blog all the advice she was given to sort it so I suggest you hope over to her place and I'm sure she will help further if you contact her. You can say Jo sent you.. tee hee!
ReplyDeleteJo x
Jo thank you so much, you have all been brilliant. What a community!Lx
DeleteHi Lynne
ReplyDeleteThe mistake many people make is not to resize images before uploading them. All my images are resized to a max of 600 pixels across and down in the computer (you can do this in many of the free picture managers). Only then are they uploaded to the blog. After getting on for two years of blogging I have used just 1% of my Picassa storage space.
If you are happy to pay for more storage there is little point in resizing the images already on the blog, but if from here on in you only upload the smaller picture files you won't have the problem again for a good while to come.
Hope that helps x
sounds a wise plan, Annie, thank you. But does this mean I can't have my nice large photos on the blog? (It may seem an obvious thing to you but I never know when one thing affects another, and when not!)
DeleteBi thanks for quick response! Am ,literally, in 20 min off to the wet wilds of Worcestershire to Evesham to play more music - hoping the pub is not flooded! Lx
You can have them the size I have mine, and I think they're easily as big as yours ... if you don't know how to do it drop me an email Lynne and I will send instructions :D
