Normal service has resumed.......

Well, here we are, back from the Land of Desperation! First of all, look at this little bundle of goodness! Arrived last week from lovely Penny at L is for Love blog, with whom I've been having a few off-blog chats recently. I'm very fond of gingham - reminds me of Junior school dresses! I know I will have fun incorporating these pieces - quite possibly into the 'vintage' style quilt which is on my to-do-before-very-long list. (I've been planning for this quilt for about two years now, time it grew some legs!) Thank you Penny, totally unneccesary but very gratefully received!

Jim and I spent last  Sunday (ie a week ago) - wasn't it a glorious day? - driving down to Suffolk to see our grand-daughter Morgan, taking her birthday present...I'm not saying what it was but if `I say Jim put a quality amount of credit on it to start her off you will get the clue I'm sure! In return I snagged her Hunger Games books two and three! I did take a photo but it wasn't very good - to see our gorgeous girl you can spin through the Kiwi Tales blog posts of earlier this summer. She is a stunner, just like her cousin Beccie. (Grandparents' Rights, the occasional brag, now come on, fair's fair, it's my blog!)

We had intended going home via Norwich  and have some lunch, but decided it was too late in the day and the place would be packed with desperate last-minute Christmas shoppers. Ok I'm being ironic. But I can never understand the frantic crowds...how many shops does it take to buy your Christmas Dinner, and a few presents? Why does it take six to eight supermarket visits, each one with two toppling high trolleys?

I digress. We decided to go to Bury St Edmunds instead. I hadn't been for years, befor eall the new shops were built. I have to say it looks very well planned and was quite bustling - but not aggressively so, on Sunday. We had a wander round some nice little shops, then popped into the museum at Smiths Row, the Market Cross  to see the Christmas Craft Fair. Well, what a treat that was! I asked permission to take photographs for the blog. I also bought some Christmas presents, I was spoilt for choice.

Aren't these spoons just gorgeous? I do have  a few bits of brightly coloured china about the house, these will fit in very well!

I was hoping to have this post up before the exhibition finished there, but unfortunately Blogger chose this time to tell me I had run out of phot storage and it threw me somewhat. Had LOADS of helpful comments, and I do thank you all out there in Blogland who wrote such helpful and supportive comments - I was having a Major Wobble! When you are not very technologically minded it doesn't take much to throw you. And I still don't understand, if I have my photos stored on iphoto, /My Pictures  /drop box etc, why I need a FURTHER storage facility in order to put photos on my blog? WHat's that all about, apart from creaming off some money? I didn't ask for my photos to be stored in Picassa! They are already on my computer, for Heaven's sake! Unless you know better, in which case, enlighten me, do!

Anyway, I have purchased extra storage but will also look into reducing the size of my photos when I upload them if I can work out how to do it.and it isn't too long winded a process every time. So, sorry to the very nice lady at the Museum Shop who was expecting a heads up for the exhibition. Catch you next time with more textiley news!

  1. It works like this it may be on your computer but its not hosted by your computer or else every time you switched the computer off your pictures would no longer be visible. SO you need somewhere online that has a permanently running server to 'host' your photo's.

    1. Hmmmm. I'm not QUITE seeing the logic of that....my words don't disappear, why should the photos? Oh this just makes my head ache!!! But thank you for your very generous help, Sarah, you amaze me with you techie skills! Lx

Ok to put it in an illistration....
You have a real life piece of paper. You write text on it. Now you take a photo you have printed out and lay it on top of the paper.
But when you pick the paper up the text stays, but the picture falls on the floor.
So you glue the photo to the paper. Now when to pick it up it stays in place.
By 'uploading' a photo you add the 'glue' to the photo for it to stick.
      Does that make more sense?

    3. Thank you Miss, will try harder I promise!
Yes that makes sense, but to behonest, if you AREN'T computer literate in any great way, you wouldn't know that the photo was less 'stuck' to the page than the words, now would you? You'd just think well, the words and the photos are in one place, why don't they both stay there! There is nowhere to tell you, if you don't already know!

Anyway, that has konda solved that little problem , thanks Sarah! Lx

  3. Well I agree about the toppling trolley syndrome! Not into the commercialism surrounding this time of year... don't buy presents, but make a couple for really close friends only. And make the few cards we send out. We buy a few extra treats for ourselves, a couple of DVDs, nice box of biccies/chocolates and that's about it. There is nothing we need or want so why buy for the sake of it?
However I love driving round looking at people's lights, and can't resist extra twinkly lights around the house and garden! Not a total Bah Humbuggy person you see!

    1. I love the IDEA of the festivities, but just hate how commercialised and artificial it has become in this country. And I hate the run up which starts in September for heaven's sake! No , not BAh Humbug at all, just can't bear the hysteria.

    1. I could have spent SO much money there, Victoria, there were some beautiful items and not overly expensive. I am keeping the spoons out of my husband's way, he does a lot of dish washing/drying and has broken so many pieces it's not true! I shall be handling these myself!

  5. Those spoons are delicious! I'm with you on the madness of Christmas, especially all the food consumed, and wasted! I love Christmas but wish it was more about spending time together rather than just spending....gosh sound like Scrooge!!! :)

    1. Not at all Scroogey, Ada, a feeling echoed by almost everyone I speak to. So why have we let it become the monstrous event which it is today? It doesn't happen in many other countries - they hang onto their customs and seem to celebrate more genuinely. Heigh-ho! Better start making my lists! Lx

  6. Just replied to you again on the last post Lynne re. the photos ... drop me an email if still needed and I'll happily help.

I've just had my laptop upside down reading the makers name for the buttons ... does she have a website or Etsy shop do you know? They are absolutely beautiful.

    1. I will Annie, I've been pointed towards a free 'batch re-sizer' but I'm still working out how to do it! Be in touch anyway. Oh the buttons yes aren't they fab? Not sure about a website - she is Janine Roper Ceramics and her email is queenjanine@tiscali.co.uk, and that really is all I know. Her buttons are very reasonable and beautifully packaged.

  7. Hi Lynne. I'm still trying to get my head round this photo malarkey too but hopefully with all the help and advice from fellow bloggers I might just not lose the plot. Loved the buttons.

  9. I absolutely LOVE and NEED those buttons Lynne, I saw her email link up onyour reply to Annie, I think queen janine might just be getting an email from me too xox
Re: my photo's I also had this problem and blogged about it and ended up paying for the privilege of keeping my photos on my blog and being allowed to upload as many as I like. I think I pay in dollars which works out to be just under £2 per month.
So pleased you are happy with the gingham, i think of childhood when I see it too x

    1. Hi Penny, yes, I can tell you the buttons are just as good as they look, and she packages them so nicely too. If you do email her, tell her how you came to see them; not because of me, she won't know me from Adam, but I would like the Museum to get some credit, especially as i messed up their photo-opportunity with my blog trauma!

Speaking of which, yes, I have bitten the bullet and done likewise, but it still irks me. Annie has said to email her about re-sizing photos and several other folk have offered advice too - I do feel inept but hey - I have other talents!!! And I love the gingham, I will definitely be putting some of it in the 'childhood dreams' quilt - there, you have given it a name for me! Been collecting appropriate fbabrics for over a year now, should get on with it!! Lx

Thanks for your latest lovely comment. I'm sure with all your lovely new things you'll be feeling very inspired and productive. I look forward to seeing what you get up too!

    1. Sandra you are so right about storage being a problem in both the real and the virtual world! I hadn't looked at it that way, but it certainly is one of my REal LIfe bugbears!

I shall be getting myself together later on and putting up the next blog post, need to galvanise myself into action! Lx
