A Couple of Jaunts

Such a sunny day it was, and the photo above looks quite grey! Never mind, you will have to imagine the sun! Jim and I took a jaunt up to Dersingham to look at some plants to go in the garden. It really was a lovely day, and warm when in direct sunshine. After visiting Thaxters and having a coffee in the cafe we drove up to Old Hunstanton and took a stroll round the craft centre - we go about once every year or so - it doesn't change much!

I bought some cards and some little odds and ends for future gifts, and no, I was tempted, but did not walk out with any socks, delightful though they were! They were imported from America so I didn't feel they had much to do with Norfolk Crafts!

Then we went for a stroll overlooking the sea and the beach huts. An old friend and I used to bring the children here - oooh MANY years ago now, to a little hut they had. Crikey! That must be about 30 years ago!!

Jim, gazing out towards Hunstanton. Blue sky more apparent here!

Looking West - Hunstanton faces both north and west, as it sits on that corner of the Rump of East Anglia.

Looking north, across the dunes to the sea.

Jim in the car park at The Lodge where we had our lunch. And very nice too!

Then on Thursday, after my melodeon lesson, I met up in Norwich with my friend Sue and we had a wander and then lunch (yes, my posts are all about eating, I know) at The Waffle House , which has been going at least thirty years and Sue can't imagine why she has never taken me there before.

Sue polishing off her waffle with brownie mousse and ice cream. I know, disgusting isn't it?

And my almost clean plate. Except I didn't have ice cream. Honest. well, just a little bit of Sue's!

So that's the extent of my wanderings for the last couple of weeks, the sunshine was just too good to remain indoors and it was good to catch up with Sue - plans for more lino-cutting are in the air. I hope you have all managed to do nice things in the sunshine - but watch those frosts! We aren't there yet!

  1. Looks like you had some great days out. I haven't been to Hunstanton for years but were thinking of taking the campervan up there this summer and looking forward to it too. The craft centre looks interesting. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. You too, Patricia. The craft centre is by the Mariners Rest if you don't already know. Sue - n the picture - borrows her mum's satic caravan at Heacham from about Easter, and I do go up to see her there. Do let me know if you are anywhere near, won't you? Lx

  2. I love the Waffle house especially their sweet waffles. I'm with you, I like to buy Norfolk crafts in Norfolk craft shops rather than something that has thousands of airmiles attached to it. So many "Galleries" sell exactly the same things these days don't they.

    1. Yes, you are under the impression it is a Norfolk Crafts outfit, so was disappointed to find the USA label. And I'm sure I shall be at the Waffle House again soonish! Lx

    2. It used to be as I used to sell my crafts there, as did others. Then they started getting in imported stuff, the same as ours, so one by one, we quit!

    3. There used to be some lovely stuff there, Dc - that was OBVIOUSLY when you had your things in there! Some of the paintings were good, and some of the pottery but I really wasn't tempted at all.

  3. I love a trip over to Hunny, I always pop in to Shan's fabrics, just can't help myself.. I do like the Waffle House and I always have ice cream. I have just watched a program called "secret eaters" where a woman claimed that she thought a large jacket potato with half a tin of baked beans 6 oz cheese and half a large tub of coleslaw was a healthy lunch. Pshaw.

  4. Thanks for popping in on me Lynne. I've been awol for a while due to caring for my friend since she came out of hospital. The hand stitching had kept me sane as she's a difficult patient and I'm no nurse. Loved the results of your workshop in the previous post and I would have relished being there.
I'm moving on now to Japanese pieced patchwork as my hand project. Did a few for a shared friendship quilt and loved doing them.
I met a lady from Norwich in our new Central Library earlier in the week ( there for our quilters group day out and a lunch in Bistro Franc). I felt so proud of Liverpool when she expressed how she was enjoying her trip here. She mentioned a contemporary quilt exhibition somewhere in your area but I didn't note the details.
Gorgeous pics of your latest jaunt... what spot to live, Wow!
    love Jo x

    1. Hmmm I wonder where tat exhibition was? Mind you there are quite a few quilt groups across the county it could have been any of them!
I love Japanese quilts and their attention to detail is amazing, but I do prefer the appliqué.
I bet your nursing experience was tough on both of you from the sounds of things! But a good thing to do, well done you. Lxx

  5. Oh Lynne such a lovely post, lots of places I haven't been to for years! I rode a horse along Hunstanton beach in my teens & last ate at the waffle house the night before my wedding! Lots of places I really should revisit. Enjoy the sunny weekend x

    1. Centre Parcs, Lynne I think is in Norfolk, but wouldn't like to swear to it! And those socks were gorgeous. My pinterest boards are full of 'em and I have been challenged to learn how to knit stripy socks ...hell might freeze over before that happens but I DID go out and buy wool, needles and pattern, so anything is possible! 8. I love your blog, the title page caught my eye, it's beautiful. We also love Old Hunstanton, I grew up in Ely so it was our 'local' seaside. We rented the Old Lighthouse for a week's holiday a few years ago and our children loved it too x

    1. Hi Josie, lovely to see you here. I had no idea you could rent the lighthouse - fancy that! I have done a weekend Buddhist retreat at one of the windmills a few years ago. I much prefer OLD Hunstanton to the 'new' one, I'm not awfully fond of that kind of sea-side town, bad memories of trying to park my car when health visiting there! xx
