A gig and more stitching

So it was off to Colchester last Monday, via my friend Jane's home in Newmarket, and another Burwell  Bash friend Jean, to see Andy Cutting, Nancy Kerr and Martin Simpson, at the Arts Centre. It poured down but we had a great time, meeting up with another Burwell Basher Tim. At the end we were standing around waiting for the crush to depart when Andy came down to chat to us, which was lovely. In February 2015 he will be back there with his new band Leveret, with Rob Harbron and Sam Sweeney (and a new cd out soon after) So hopefully we shall be there in strength with other Burwell Bashers.

Apart from a little bit of music I have mostly been stitching! Oh, apart from my birthday which was lovely. We are now into count-down mode for the Craft Fair , three weeks only to go. Here are some photos of the last blue cushion and the panel which I finished mid-week.

There has been quite a lot of interest on facebook about the Folk Flowers cushion, so I think people like it; I enjoyed stitching into this lovely felted wool. I really enjoyed stitching the panel as well, it turned out just the way I had wanted, but I'm not sure it is as saleable as the cushion. It is to hang on the wall, like a bas-relief carving, or a picture, but lots of people have asked what it is "for"! So maybe no one will have it.

I love the frame, it just makes it different form everything else. But there you are, if you don't try these things out you never move on do you? Still not happy with the felt wreath I did the other week. But now I need to concentrate on some more bangles ...... and I was intending to make some cards too, but I think that may not happen!

I've been reading so many blogs about bottling and otherwise preserving this year's harvest, I feel quite inadequate. Maybe next year......... Anyway, we seem to be hurtling into Autumn - it felt quite chilly today and overcast. Surely there is still some sunshine left?

  1. i think the panel would also look lovely as a table centrepiece - it looks good against the wood.

    1. Hi Isabelle, thanks for commenting - I am trying to work out from your blogs where you are based - thought initially New Zealand for some reason - perhaps you'll put me right?
I think maybe the panel looks larger than it is, it's about 12" by 16", and I think it would look a bit lost on a dining table. I see it hanging on a wall, perhaps in a collection of other funky photos or carvings or hangings! Lx

    1. Thanks Chickpea. In fact I use very few stitches - running and back stitch, flystitch, french knots, star stitch and straight stitch. My favourite stitch ever is feather stitch and I intend at some point to use it in very fine thread as a background cover stitch. Lx

  3. Hi Lynne. Thank you for your lovely comment re number 1 son and my gran.
I love your work it reminds me of my grandma's embroidery from many years ago. You mentioned a Facebook page, how do I find it? I'm sure to turn up at a craft fair sooner or later!

    1. It's my own FB page, Jay, I don't have one for Textile Treasury, because to be honest it would be just one more thing to cope with! I will be sure to put the details on the next blog post, complete with post code! You never know, you may get there in one piece!! Lxx

    1. Hi Dc, yes, I have a nice little stash now! I use the blanket as the background and where possible nice wool felt for the appliqué. Have to make sure the two layers aren't too bulky to stitch comfortably. Yes, nearly time for soups - goody, I love making them and we love eating them! Lx

  6. once again i am in awe lynne - the stitching on the cushion must take you an age to do - it's a good job you enjoy doing it!!! i cannot imagine that you can ask the true cost of making it!!!! don't worry about the jam making and pickling - thousands of others are doing that - if i'm honest i'm fed up of hearing about it!!!!! it would take me a year to collect enough jam jars (we don't eat that much jam / marmalade and no pickles really!!!) so i certainly do not bother - that said dave bought some cider marmalade the other week and is currently enjoying it on his weekend toast!!! glad you had a good trip to see your friends - have a good week and just do your best re your stalls - we all set too high a standard for ourselves - whatever you do will be splendid - i'm sure AND soups are absolutely what i am looking forward to this autumn - especially as i am back at fat club (sob)!!!! xx

    1. Hi Lynne and thanks, yes, it does take an age though I am getting quicker! I do enjoy it - there is a fine line between enjoying what you are doing and feeling oppressed by it! By keeping the number of craft fairs to 2 or 3 a year I can carry on enjoying what I do.
As for the preserving - I have done LOADS over the years, and thought when I retired I would be picking and chopping and bottling to my heart's content - HA! If I only had time - something not quite right here! But soups there will be, and we are already into a much cooler snap aren't we. As for fat club - I am hovering on the brink of the 5-2 because I know it works. General self loathing kicking in again. Grrrrrrrrr!! Lxx

  7. Loving the stitching, and envying you the Andy Cutting gig. I'm sitting here inhaling Vick vapour - I have a stinky cold - and listening to Holy Moly and the Crackers. Do you know their music? If not I think you might like it :)
